Cloud Valley is just 26 km from the base of Tadiyendamol, Coorg's mightiest mountain. Green, misty and breathtakingly beautiful. Some of Coorg's most beautiful peaks, tower over the forested valleys. With white clouds resting on their peaks, they look like someone tall and distinguished trying to catch your attention in a crowd. The grand Pushpagiri mountain in the north-west rises to 5626 ft above sea level. Kotabetta, one of the peaks in the Subramanya range is 5375 ft high. To the north of Brahmagiri at Bhagamandla is the Sampaje Valley with dense forest and bamboo clumps, and steep gorges through which descends the highway to Mangalore on the west coast. Continuing on the line of the ghats are the well wooded Tumbemale in Marenad and Tadiyandamole in Nalnad. This last hill is the highest in Coorg measuring 5729 ft. On a clear day, from here, you can see right across the Kerala forests, and spot the Arabian Sea, at least for a few minutes before either cloud or mist plays censor. To the extreme south-west lies the Marenad range with great lateral ridges of the Brahmagiris, which form the southern boundary, separating it from the Wynad area of Kerala. The highest peak in the range is Devasibetta, 4500 ft above sea level. To the west of village Teralu in Marenad is Perumalmale, second in height only to Devasibetta in the Brahmagiri range. To the west of Perumalmale is the plateau of Abel covered with dense forest, which is the abode of the dreaded bison and majestic wild elephants. A little further to the west of Abel is the enchanting river Chomapole, which flows through the rocky valley to the west and joins the Arabian sea. Many branches of the Brahmagiri hills are spread in Kiggatnad. Camping and trekking in Coorg. Few places in India can offer pleasures that compare. We have, besides the sleeping accommodation listed here under the link – Cloud Valley, Coorg – dormitory type accommodation in a giant attic. A group of 20 people can sleep comfortably in the attic alone. Though we would need to provide the ‘rough it’ options of sleeping bags and bedding rolls on the floor, and not proper cots. We usually put up tents in the compound to accommodate members of trekking groups. A riverside camping ground is also yours, with tents, just 2.5 km from here. Thickly forested, with complete privacy to do your thing. Food can be delivered there. Trekking guides can be provided if we are informed 48 hours in advance.
